Stay Connected Anywhere, Anytime: Introducing Motorola Defy 2 Rugged Phone and Defy Satellite Link Device with Advanced 2-Way Satellite Messaging Abilities!

Motorola Mobility, a Lenovo company, has collaborated with UK-based mobile phone manufacturer Bullitt Group to introduce two new devices in the Motorola Defy series, catering to the demands of individuals who require a tough smartphone capable of enduring harsh environments. The Motorola Defy 2 smartphone and Motorola Defy Satellite Link accessory are the products of this partnership.

Barely a month after the teaser, the Motorola Defy 2 has been unveiled as the world’s inaugural smartphone to use Bullitt’s satellite messenger service, equipped with cutting-edge two-way satellite messaging, location sharing, and SOS assistance.

Motorola’s Defy 2 is among its top-tier 5G rugged smartphones, purpose-built to endure drops and impacts. The device has been subjected to extensive laboratory and real-world testing, withstanding drops from heights up to 1.8 meters and repeated falls onto a steel plate from all angles, which is quite impressive according to Motorola’s claims.

In addition, the phone is designed to provide complete protection against the intrusion of dust, sand, and dirt, along with excellent water resistance. The Defy 2 has undergone submersion testing at depths of up to 5 meters and high-pressure water jets, earning it certifications for both IP68 and IP69K.

And that’s not all! The Motorola Defy 2 has been subjected to rigorous testing in extreme high and low temperature conditions, humid environments, and salt mist exposure. It has also undergone extensive vibration and tumble tests. Moreover, the phone is safe to wash with soap and water, or even alcohol wipes, without any concerns.

Its robustness is not its sole forte

In terms of specifications, the Motorola Defy 2 boasts a generous 6.6-inch FHD+ display, featuring a 20:9 aspect ratio and a rapid 120Hz refresh rate. The device is equipped with a powerful 2.2GHz octa-core MediaTek Dimensity 930 processor, coupled with 6GB of RAM, 128GB of internal storage (expandable via microSD cards), and an enormous 5,000 mAh battery.

In addition, the phone boasts a triple camera configuration comprising of a 50MP, 8MP, and 2MP sensor, alongside an 8-megapixel front-facing camera. Surprisingly, the Defy 2 will debut with the latest Android 12 operating system, and Motorola has confirmed that the device will receive two additional OS updates and 5 years of security patches.

What sets this phone apart from its highly durable construction is Bullitt’s Satellite Messenger, offering Defy 2 users uninterrupted global coverage using existing infrastructure. Furthermore, users can leverage the new technology to send messages via satellite as long as they have an unobstructed view of the sky.

The service utilizes the Defy 2’s hardware in conjunction with the Bullitt Satellite Messenger app to transmit messages. Initially, the phone will endeavor to establish a connection via Wi-Fi or cellular network, but in the absence of either, it will automatically switch to satellite connectivity. While recipients who lack the Bullitt Satellite Messenger can still receive messages as regular SMS, they would need to download the app to reply.

It’s worth noting that the expense of messages sent or received through satellite will be deducted from the satellite messaging subscriber’s plan, without any charge to the recipient. Furthermore, the SOS Assist feature is free for the first year upon the launch of the Motorola Defy 2 and is included in all plans. For those interested, Bullitt’s Satellite Messenger service is available for subscription, starting at a nominal fee of $4.99 per month.
